DEA Fails to reschedule Marijuana in a sad attempt to keep the war on drugs raging out of control.

In a country dominated by lobbyist’s and corporations, it is no wonder that the DEA has failed to reschedule marijuana from a schedule I substance. Once again, the federal government has thwarted the attempts of its citizens to get the relief they need. Instead, they classify marijuana in the same category as heroin. “No medical benefit,” at least that is what they say. What is the real reason behind this decision you ask? It is simple; the out for-profit corrections system would go bankrupt if they had to stop arresting people for pot.

Notably, the federal government for years has allowed the practice of a for-profit prison system within the United States. Unfortunately, for those that the laws are supposed to protect, if often does more harm. What if I told you that the prison system and the DEA have a scheme in place that robs billions of dollars from American’s pockets every year? Would you be angry? It is time to decide for yourself and take a stand. While this article focuses on the prison system, you should also know that Big Pharma, Hospitals and yes even schools benefit from keeping Marijuana illegal.

Currently, lobbyists in Washington are fighting to keep the for-profit prison system alive. They are spending millions bribing your politicians into keeping this barbaric practice in place. Marijuana arrests represent up to 60% of all drug-related arrests and convictions. That means that somewhere in the range of 30-40% of all prisoners are incarcerated for marijuana-related convictions; some for life without the possibility of parole.

Of those prisoners (and their families) paying restitution and prison fees, more lives have been ruined in this “war on drugs” than any other war in history. In many states, including at the federal level, it is perfectly legal for these agencies to bust you for small amounts of marijuana, put you in jail, seize your car, house, and bank account for payment of your fines and restitution. They are also kind enough to leave you without the ability to reintegrate into society with gainful employment when you finally do get out of prison. It is a vicious cycle that will only stop when enough people stand up for those suffering from medical conditions and say, “enough.”

On the bright side, President Obama has commuted the sentence of hundreds of federal inmates who were imprisoned for marijuana-related offenses. Now, the DEA is allowing more universities and medical institutions to study the benefits (or pitfalls) of marijuana. So, admittedly, some progress is being made. Unfortunately, however, progress is slow and comes at a price. Billions more will be siphoned off of the hardworking American public until real change happens.

It is important to know that you have a voice in this fight. In history, we know that change never happens unless everyone comes together with one goal in mind. Do I expect to have a sit-in, peace marching Dr. King to lead us into a new era of prosperity? No, but never the less, change can happen. Review the current marijuana laws in your state, call your local and state representatives and let them know that you support the legalization of Marijuana.
