Marijuana investigation leads to one arrest

A false wall can only hide so much.

So when the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force arrived at a residence in the 7000 section of Kentucky 416-West in Robards Wednesday evening, the investigators couldn’t see the marijuana, but they could smell it.

According to Henderson County Sheriff’s Detective Bill Mills, a task force member, the team went to the home to serve an arrest warrant to William “Nick” Bunch, 30, as part of an ongoing investigation. Bunch was allegedly living in an outbuilding on the property.

While placing Bunch under arrest, he was allegedly found with drug paraphernalia on his person.

The detectives said they noticed something else — “a strong, pungent odor of marijuana in the area.”

This prompted a more intense search, authorities said. Law enforcement made their way into the outbuilding, and at that time Bunch’s dwelling, where a false wall was discovered, Mills said.

With the help of the Henderson County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, Aries and handler, Deputy James Eblen, authorities found eight potted marijuana plants which were roughly 3 feet in height, according to a news release. The plants are valued at roughly $10,000, Mills said.

Items used to cultivate marijuana were also allegedly discovered.

Bunch was charged with cultivation of marijuana, five or more plants, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, among other offenses. He was lodged at the Henderson County Detention Center.
