Miley Cyrus reveals why she quit smoking marijuana

Miley Cyrus has smoked “a lot of weed,” as she told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Wednesday.

“It’s like no one’s ever died from weed, but no one’s ever smoked as much as I did,” Cyrus said. (Tell that last part to Willie Nelson or Snoop Dogg.)

For her new album, however, the singer wanted to speak as clearly as possible about the record, so she quit — and she has Fallon to thank in part. “I’ve always been very stoned on your shows. I don’t know if you know this, everybody,” Cyrus admitted to Fallon. “‘Member the last time I was here? I was dressed as a bunny rabbit and then like a cat. There’s a reason for that: I was high.”

The decision to eliminate marijuana came at a pivotal time in her career. “I’m actually the most passionate about what I’m doing with this record than I’ve been — I say this every time, but I loved making this record so, so much,” said Cyrus, who has already released two tracks from the album, “Malibu” and “Inspired,” the latter of which she debuted for LGBTQ Pride Month. “And this record at this moment is the most important album that I’ve ever made. So I wanted to make sure that I was super clear in the way I’m talking.”

Cyrus also explained that she would have a “nightmare” about hosting Saturday Night Live under the influence of marijuana. “I had a dream that I would die during my monologue on SNL for some reason, that I would just get so stoned that I just died, which I Googled and that’s never happened,” she said.

She has a sense of humor about it all, though: Cyrus laughed about how she would “sit at home and eat” and play with her pets when she was stoned. “I was spending way too much time with the pig,” she said, “and not enough time actually doing really anything.”
