New medical marijuana business coming to Pahrump

A new medical marijuana cultivation facility is coming to Pahrump.

Nye Farm Tech received an initial medical marijuana establishment license on Tuesday.

Nye County Code requires a medical marijuana establishment license prior to the operation of any medical marijuana business, including cultivation facility, production facility, dispensary or testing laboratory.

Prior to that, county commissioners approved a special use permit change of location request on Dec. 15, 2015, that allowed the business to relocate from Amargosa Valley to 5400 N. Highway 160 in Pahrump.

In a letter to Nye County commissioners, Sophie Ideker of the Healing Center, one of the shareholders of the business, said Nye Farm Tech will have a beneficial economic impact on the community.

“In addition to the positive environmental impact that we will achieve through our business practices, we plan to have a positive impact on the community in terms of direct economic impact and furthering the positive benefits of providing affordable, high quality, and efficacious medical marijuana for the local community, in accordance with the state of Nevada’s NRS,” Ideker said.

Ideker also said a build-out construction of the existing building will contribute to the economy in the area. She also said the business will bring medical and health improvements to the community.

The business previously had a bankruptcy and still has to submit background and financial information. Its bankruptcy case was dismissed on Nov. 28, 2016.

In addition, it has to submit a water impact analysis that has to be reviewed by the Nye County Water District, a requirement that was pulled last year due to the bankruptcy.

Nye County currently has 19 medical marijuana establishment licenses approved.
