Two 18-year-olds killed outside suspected marijuana grow house identified

Authorities have named the two young adults killed outside a suspected marijuana grow house on Sunday in south Sacramento.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s office identified Glen Myers, 18, as one of those killed in the 4 a.m. shooting on 68th Street near Lemon Hill Avenue. A Sacramento Superior Court judge said Monday that Ahjanique Hodges, also 18, was the second person killed by blasts from a 12-gauge shotgun.

Police have described the two dead individuals as alleged home invasion burglars. Investigators arrested Sean Huang, 46, as the suspected shooter.

Hodges’ aunt, Heather Hunter, attended a hearing Monday at which Huang was scheduled to be arraigned for murder. Her breath caught in her throat as she heard her niece’s name read by the judge. Hunter said family and friends gathered for a vigil Monday on the street where Hodges died.

“What’s upsetting the family the most is that they’ve made Ahjanique out to be part of a home invasion,” Hunter said outside the courtroom. “It’s surreal to us.”Huang appeared briefly before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Michael Sweet, but the hearing was delayed to find a Cantonese interpreter after Huang said he couldn’t understand the proceedings.

Responding officers on Sunday found the bodies of Myers and Hodges lying in the road. Huang was arrested at a hospital where he had gone for treatment of an injury that police believe he suffered at the crime scene.

Sacramento County Public Defender’s attorneys had not yet been assigned Huang’s case and were awaiting charging documents from county prosecutors, said Mark Slaughter, a supervising attorney in the Public Defender’s office.
