On fire over the weekend, Elliot Sloane, Tyler Bereman, and Stephanie Pietz – all Weedmaps sponsored athletes – elevated the 2017 X Games as they lit up the crowd at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium.
A first for Minneapolis, the X Games initially cultivated their traveling roadshow of hybridized competitors in 1995. Produced by ESPN sports, athletes participating in the X Games excel in three thrill seeking arenas: skateboarding, BMX, and motocross – a.k.a. Moto X, for the uninitiated.
Sloan Pulls Off First-Ever Indy Tail Grab 900
An annual summertime showdown for today’s adrenaline fueled millennials, the Minneapolis X Games were nothing short of historic. Elliot Sloan, a man on a mission, won gold after smoking the competition during the X Games’ Big Air event. After blazing down a 27-foot-high quarter pipe, Sloan threw down the first-ever Indy Tail Grab 900 before the spellbound crowd. A mesmerizing trick that left the audience in awe, Sloan stepped up and stomped it like a boss.
Moto X Goes Big
Higher than most in the Moto X Quarter Pipe High Air Final, Tyler Bereman boosted his Weedmaps sponsored Kawasaki KX450F 341.00 inches above the earth during Sunday’s final. Then, after blasting his 4-stroke Kawasaki high enough to snatch the Silver medal, Bereman hit the gas and whipped his WM bike into a respectable third place during the Sunday finals of the ‘Moto X Best Whip’ competition. Once the Twittersphere was done casting their electronic vote, Bereman secured a respectable third place.
No Medals, but Plenty of Honor
While the flat tracking female phenom, Stephanie Pietz, missed qualifying for the semifinals by one spot, she noted on Instagram, “I rode hard, kept it shiny side up, and gave it everything I had.” Ultimately a winner for helping shatter gender barriers in the world of flat track racing, few doubt that Stephanie will be back next year.
A four-day competition featuring insane tricks and live music, the 2017 X Games organizers claimed approximately 110,000 frenzied fans enjoyed the Minneapolis event. Scheduled to return next year to the same venue, organizers and designers will no doubt be busy dreaming up some crazy new ideas for 2018’s gravity defying X Games.
