The Wook Show is the Coolest 4/20 Party No One Knows About

The Wook Show is the Coolest 420 Party No One Knows About

Imagine if every year around Christmas time, Jay-Z, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Future, and the world’s top rappers all decided to enter a studio together and see what magic they could make for two weeks straight. That’s the equivalent of what goes down leading up to 4/20 at the Everdream studio in Evergreen, Colorado, where many of the nation’s top glass artists get together and collaborate.

Whether by car or plane, renowned glass artists assemble at this artistic haven in Evergreen, Colorado, just 45 minutes west of Denver. And while the names Buck, Darby, Quave, and Cowboy might sound foreign to you, they’re equivalent to the starting five of the Golden State Warriors. Those artists all traveled from the Pacific Northwest to work side by side with Everdream’s core six artists: WJC, N8, Eusheen, Adam G, Elbo, and Joe P. Other notable artists on the 4/20 scene included Alex Ubatuba, Murdoch, TrevyMetal, Stormin Norman, and a 19-year-old whose real name is — no joke — Avatar.

It’s a scene, it’s a trip, and it’s a mecca. Watching these guys work side by side is like watching an NBA All-Star game in person — except these masters of their craft are actually trying.

Their goal is simple and genuine: collaborate with friends to make the craziest functional glass art known to mankind.

The culmination of these collaborations is the Wook Show, a 4/20 celebration shrouded in mystery and body odor. The Wook Show is where the finished artistic pieces are put on display and up for sale.

The purpose of the Wook Show is simple: give the glass artists an annual forum while giving the cannabis community a 4/20 party without frills (there’s no sponsors here). But the thing about the Wook Show is most people deep in Colorado’s cannabis industry don’t even know it’s going on. It’s a cult-like event shrouded in illusion — and that’s exactly what WJC aimed for when he coined the term.

Adam G, one of the show’s founders, says there’s a reason for the “mystery in keeping people not knowing. We don’t say where it is. We don’t say when it is, we’ll cancel it for no reason. Then we’ll uncancel it and keep it real wooked out.”

It may the sixth Wook Show, it may be the fourth, or it could be the second — and that’s the point. No one knows where the Wook Show will be or if it will actually happen until the days leading up to 4/20 — if you’re in the know.

While the art show’s title suggests something perhaps crass, the glass is high class. Jeans may be ripped and facial hair may be plentiful, but this unique art show is high-end; combined value, the works on display could buy a nice house in Denver.

Sure, there’s money at stake, but you get the sense that these guys would be doing what they’re doing even if there were no buyers. Everyone on hand is just happy to celebrate hash (plenty of that) and glass. There’s no cover to enter the studio, there’s no charge at the bar, and there’s certainly no suits at the Wook Show.

This is the real cannabis culture.
