British man paraded in public for ‘smuggling weed into Bali’

British Man Arrest

A British man has been arrested at an airport in Bali after allegedly being found with 3.55 grams of cannabis in a cigarette case. The 26-year old freelance photographer was arrested after arriving on an AirAsia flight from Bangkok to Denpasar, Bali on Wednesday. A day earlier, customs at Ngurah Rai airport also arrested a 34-year-old Chilean man allegedly found with 3 grams (0.1 ounces) of cannabis seeds called ‘The Bulldog Seeds’. They were filmed after the arrests while handcuffed and wearing custody uniforms.

The pair will both be charged with possession under Indonesia’s tough anti-drugs law and could face up to a maximum of 15 years in prison. Agung Rai Parwata, police investigator, said: ‘The second suspect is a British citizen who was arrested because (he was) carrying cannabis from Thailand to Denpasar (Bali).’ Syarif Hidayat, head of Bali Customs, said: ‘Airport customs in Bali have arrested a British citizen, initials Z-W-T, age 26 years old, working as a freelance photographer, sitting on my left.’ Indonesia has extremely strict drug laws and convicted smugglers are sometimes executed. Eighteen convicts, mostly foreigners, have been executed under President Joko Widodo, who took office in October 2014 and declared a war on illegal drugs. More than 150 people are currently on death row, mostly for drug crimes. About one-third of them are foreigners.
