Cannabis Sales shoot during Thanksgiving

Cannabis sales in the U.S. market have increased as many people celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

The recreational marijuana market in the U.S. has been growing at an alarming rate and it has hit close to $20 billion. Earlier this month, Massachusetts, California, Maine and Nevada voted in laws that decriminalized the use of pot for recreational purposes. Washington, Colorado Alaska, Washington, D.C and Oregon were among the first states to pass these laws.

According to Cy Scott, the co-founder of the cannabis analytics firm Headset, more people will be shopping for marijuana this thanksgiving as a result of the growing conversation on the subject.

In 2015, Green Friday or the day after Thanksgiving experienced sales that were 13 percent higher than ordinary Fridays; this is according to a Washington dispensary sales data review.

Baker; a Cannabis order-ahead service that is based in Denver, expects to make a killing this year after it enjoyed seeing its order volume double on last year’s Green Friday weighing against other ordinary day.

Dispensaries are also usually packed with lines on the day before thanksgiving. According to the Scott’s firm Washington data set, sales shot up to 27 percent across the board, hence the name Weed Wednesday. Unsurprisingly, most of the sales around this holiday move in the direction of foods and drinks. Compared to other Wednesdays, most dispensaries sold72 percent more beverages and 58 percent more edibles. Dispensaries also experienced sales of this nature during the Fourth of July and Memorial Day.

According to Amanda Gonzalez; the Chief Executive Officer for Denver-based dispensary Kaya Cannabis, they began promoting their pot to prospective consumers on Monday through Wednesday.

Last year, the days leading up to Thanksgiving produced more sales compared to Black Friday. Gonzalez says that this is as a result of steep competition from retailers who don’t sell marijuana on the renowned shopping day.

Kaya Cannabis is selling two holiday gift packages at $40 and $50 respectively. The dispensary offers variety for its marijuana consumers with its medical and recreational counters. The substance is sold in form of concentrates, vapor pens and edibles.

So if you find it a little stressful to see your family, it might be advisable to grab some pot from your nearest dispensary to add to that bottle of wine. Cheers!
