Deadhead OG Marijuana Strain Review

Deadhead OG Marijuana Strain Review

Strain Overview

The Scoop: Deadhead OG is an Indica-dominant hybrid, according to the knowledgeable breeders at The Cali Connection. A truly unique smoking pleasure, Deadhead OG is also a breeder’s delight to cultivate. Derived from the original Chemdawg `91 gene pool, via “the Skunk VA cut,” and crossed with SFV OG, she’s been hybridized to perfection for the smoking (and growing) pleasure of today’s consumer.

The Result: Pleasantly mind-altering and uniquely flavorful, the Deadhead OG’s high delivers a psychological reprieve for those stressful moments thrown at us by the modern world. Acrid, exhilarating and heady, the high produced by Deadhead OG speaks to its roots within cultivation folklore. A great strain for relaxing at the end of a soul-crushing work day, Deadhead is also known for sparking its fair share of creativity.

The Verdict: Deadhead OG, as both a recreational and medicinal strain, certainly gets the job done. Allow the head high to wash over you before melting away into a puddle of amused pleasure. A great strain for stimulating the repressed appetite, Deadhead is also known for putting stress and depression to bed for the night.

Strain Profile

The Science: Dissected, scrutinized, and analyzed for its total terpene and cannabinoid content in a January 2017 potency screening, Deadhead OG’s test results indicate these specific buds were clean and ready for action. Microbiologically sanitary and pesticide free, Deadhead OG had a total THC content of 21.64 percent. Of which, 20.9 percent was comprised of THCA, 0.73 percent THC, and only 0.01 percent THCV. Mildly high in the CBGA cannabinoid (1.05 percent), Deadhead OG’s terpene test results also indicate this strain has a propensity to reek. Higher in some terpenes than in others, the dominant terps in this batch of Deadhead OG were beta-Myrcene – 3.24 mg/g, d-Limonene – 3.26 mg/g, and beta-Caryophyllene – 3.08 mg/g.

Appearance: Deadhead OG’s nuggets take on the shape of elongated pine cones, with their calyxes twisting and turning to a contrived point. Like most visually appealing buds on the market today, Deadhead OG has a striking ratio of colorful greens and bright oranges. The calyx and sweetleaf are a dark green coloration and resemble the ends of your favorite felt-tipped markers. Deadhead OG’s pistils are a deep orange with a splash of yellow, and the delicate trichrome covering gives these buds a velvet rope-like appearance.

Consistency: While the flowers appear velvety, they are anything but soft and squishy. Dense, but not rock hard, Deadhead OG is a great middle-of-the-road strain. Far from light and fluffy, a well-cured nug of Deadhead OG will require the use of a sharp grinder to get the job of “shredding” done efficiently.

Scent: Some OGs are uber pungent, but apparently, my batch of Deadhead OG wasn’t one of them. Despite that, it still packed a decent punch. While the earthbound musk was present during the first inhale, in addition to some subtle notes of citrus, her piney scent dominated my olfactory senses. Grinding up the buds will bring about more of a diesel smell, one that actually lingers for a bit — not a crazy strong aroma but a nice smell nonetheless.

Taste: While the aroma may be lacking in the sack, Deadhead OG’s taste more than makes up for it on the first inhale. The citrus and diesel really come through here, with a taste that lingers in your mouth. Earthy flavors dig their way through the lemony smells and round out Deadhead OG’s overall flavor profile.

Effect: Thanks to the strain’s relatively balanced profile, you’ll likely come away from a Deadhead OG journey heavily sedated with an inspired sense of creativity. At first, the Sativa makes itself known, quickly and rather furiously. You’ll feel an almost hallucinogenic head rush with lots of creative thoughts. But shortly after, the Indica portion of this high announces its presence with unquestioned authority.

Strain Background: The Cali Connection

c prides itself on breeding California’s finest strains. This specially picked strain is from a rare Original 91 Chemdawg (aka, the Skunk VA cut) and is the only verified strain Chem gave out. This is a legendary strain if there ever was one.

Medical Uses: Great for either recreational or medicinal use, Deadhead OG provides a strong alternative for those looking to bring their individual stress levels down a notch, without the help of pharmaceuticals or alcohol.
