weed crimes

AURORA, IL — A Missouri man was charged with armed violence after a routine traffic stop led Aurora police to allegedly find a gun and more than a pound of weed inside of his vehicle. Police charged Marquan D. Neal, of Springfield Missouri, with five felonies in connection with the July 18 incident, including armed violence, manufacture/delivery of cannabis, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

According to police, they first pulled over Neal because he failed to use a turn signal while turning into a driveway in the 1100 block of Galena. Police say they smelled cannabis coming from Neal’s car, which led to a search of the vehicle.

During the search the officer said they found a .9mm-handgun in Neal’s center console, for which Neal did not have a valid FOID card. Police also searched Neal’s backpack and allegedly found 1.3 pounds of cannabis, in addition to finding $1,900 cash in Neal’s shirt pocket.

Neal faces an enhanced sentence if convicted on the armed violence charge, police say, which is a class X felony.
