Hillsborough deputies bust family marijuana ring worth $1 million

TAMPA — A mother, father and son are under arrest, accused of running a family grow house operation with more than $1-million worth of marijuana.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies said Maritza Rodon, 60, Ramon Fernandez-Fernandez, 66, and Ariel Fernandez, 41, were arrested Tuesday for a running a marijuana ring that spanned four houses.

Investigators found 370 marijuana plants which weighed 539 pounds. Deputies said the marijuana had a street value of $1,079,280.

Deputies searched four homes: 8912 Westbay Boulevard and 8222 Drycreek Drive in Town ‘N Country and 5914 Birchwood Drive and13716 Old Farm Drive in the Citrus Park area. Investigators said three of the four had been converted to solely grow marijuana.

The family also is accused of stealing $21,402 in electricity from an unmetered connection.

The Sheriff’s Office said it’s the 37th grow operation its ended this year.
