SPRINGFIELD — Twenty years later, “The Dude” still abides.
“The Big Lebowski,” starring Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, was named as one of the top nine stoner movies. The 1998 classic explored bowling, friendship, a kidnapping, philosophies of nihilism and sex and, of course, pot smoking.
Elsewhere, there’s problems with weed growers in Tacoma, Washington, word that “Battlestar Galactica” actress Tricia Helfer feeds CBD oil to her cats and  that explanation how to build a sploof you’ve been waiting for.

The “Big Lebowski” makes this list because, as reporter David Bienenstock writes in a July 12, 2018 story on leafly.com, “It’s not a stoner movie, it’s an incredibly brilliant and hilarious movies about a guy who happens to smoke a lot of cannabis.”
Other flicks on the list: “Reefer Madness” (1936) and “Up In Smoke” (1978).

“A small but blossoming corner of the marijuana industry is set for a boom,” says a July 14, 2018 Business Insider story by Erin Brodwin.
CBD and THC are among the compounds available in the cannabis plant. While both have medical-treatment properties, THC is “psychoactive,” the element that gets you high, and CBD is attractive because of its  nonintoxicating powers.

As marijuana business booms, equity among all folks to be able to compete is lacking, reports Jaya Saxena on gq.com July 12, 2018.
“Like any other industry in a capitalist economy, the cannabis industry is plainly unfair. In many states where the substance is legal, those with past cannabis convictions can’t legally obtain a license to open a business, even though having a cannabis business was what got them arrested in the first place,” the gq.com story said.
In June, Massachusetts officials announced plans to launch the nation’s first statewide “social equity” program to help minorities and people convicted of drug offenses work in the legal marijuana industry.
