Police found $1 million worth of marijuana in Ford cars shipped from Mexico to Ohio

Authorities found $1 million worth of marijuana in new Ford cars shipped from Mexico to Ohio, according to our affiliate WKRC.

Drug Enforcement Agency officials said that the cars were manufactured in Mexico and were sent to a Ohio car dealership. The dealership in Youngstown discovered that marijuana was stored in the wheels of the cars between July 7 and July 11, according to KTLA 5.

Ford Motor Company is working with authorities to resolve the matter.

“We’re aware of the situation and are taking it very seriously,” a Ford Motor Company spokesman said Saturday. “We are working with the FBI and Customs on an extensive investigation. We have confirmed that this is not happening at our plant or at our internal shipping yards.”

Officials said they found 15 cars containing marijuana in four counties in Ohio. Each of the wheels weighed nearly 32 pounds.

Authorities have not made any arrests as of yet.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. In May, authorities in Minnesota found 1,100 pounds of marijuana hidden in the spare-tire wells of at least 22 Ford Fusions shipped from Mexico.
