Progreso CBP Officers Seize Over 410 Pounds of Marijuana Hidden in Trailer

PROGRESO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry seized approximately 400 pounds of marijuana Wednesday evening.

“This significant amount of narcotics was intercepted by our CBP officers as a result of their vigilance and perseverance,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry. “I congratulate them and commend their hard work and dedication.”

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, CBP officers assigned to the Progreso International Bridge cargo facility encountered a white 1973 Kenworth tractor hauling an empty refrigerated trailer. During a routine x-ray examination, officer observed anomalies within the conveyance and referred the tractor trailer to secondary for further inspection. During the secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered 110 packages of alleged marijuana with a total weight of 413 pounds. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $82,600.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics and the tractor trailer, the driver was taken into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI). The case remains under investigation by ICE-HSI special agents.
