Review: The CF710 Helped Me Conquer a Nectar Collector Fear

Review The CF710 Helped Me Conquer a Nectar Collector Fear

For pretty much my entire smoking career, even before reaching the professional ranks, I have avoided nectar collectors like chocolatey trim run. Not because the straw-like dabbing device was ineffective or wasn’t a ton of fun to use, but because I am not in the “one percent” — the people who can afford to enjoy multi-gram dabs on a regular basis.

Using a nectar collector requires you to drop the blazing hot end of a glass or metal tube into your wax supply to transfer a fog of delicious cannabis vapors into your system through the other end of the tube. The temptation to vaporize your entire stash and vault yourself into the marijuana smoker’s hall of fame is tempting. However, you must avoid this temptation at all costs.

When I received a box from portable smoking device manufacturer Boundless, I was expecting a dry flower vaporizer because they excel in the category. Instead, I sat confused for a few seconds while attempting to figure out what sat before my eyes. The CF710 was long and cylindrical like a vaporizer pen, but one end had an exposed coil, so that must mean … [runs to hide wax supply from self]… it’s a nectar collector.

Using the included dab tool and crucial discretionary dish, I carefully prepared a single serving hit of wax. I wanted to try the CF710 with a number of different styles of concentrate to get a complete understanding of its capabilities, so SFV OG crumble from TropiCali and some Afghani sauce from Jah Famiglia made for perfect test subjects. The wide variance in consistency between the spongy, angel food cake-like SFV crumble and the thick, syrupy Afghani would allow me to evaluate both coils included with the CF710 in multiple smoking scenarios.

As you hold the CF710 in your hands, it feels very sturdy and impeccably crafted, albeit slightly heavier than your average portable vape pen. The mouthpiece and coil can both be removed easily for storing, and the interchangeable coils are easy to swap in and out. Boundless includes both ceramic and quartz nail coils with the CF710 for ultimate user customization and personal taste preference.

In my experience, the quartz atomizer was quicker to reach full heat, so you could dab almost immediately. The quartz nail worked quite well with the crumble as it took a little extra “oomph” to break down the persistent extract. On the other hand, the Afghani sauce and the ceramic coil were a match made in heaven. The ceramic nail took more time to reach full heat but stayed there longer, so just a small amount of the already-gooey sauce made for a full smoke session. The slightly lower temp quartz nail definitely provided better flavor from both concentrates, though the vapor production was somewhat less than its ceramic counterpart.

The 900mAH battery on the CF710 was more than impressive, lasting four full sessions before alerting me to a low charge.

An easy-to-master one-button mechanism allows for quick learning and an enjoyable experience from your first dab. The beauty of the CF710 is that it’s the first portable dabbing solution I’ve tried that could truly replace my standard rig and torch setup. In other words, this bad boy hits very intensely, so dab responsibly and start slow — this is not your ordinary vape pen.

If you want more control over your hits, you can operate the CF710 on-demand by simply holding the button when you’d like to vaporize the wax. Alternatively, if you’re passing the unit around in a rotation to share, you can quickly press the button three times to put the vaporizer in a continuous heating mode for 15 seconds. While the CF710 lacks precise temperature controls, I have no complaints as there were no leftover globs in my glass container. If you’re a low-temp dabber, you can accomplish this by hitting the CF710 soon after pressing the button rather than waiting for full heat.

After using the CF710 for about a week, I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a portable dabbing solution or just want to ditch your butane torch for a less noxious alternative. At $120, the CF710 nectar collector feels like a steal for the quality and will keep you satisfied session after session.
