Riverton Woman Facing Charges for Mailbox Marijuana Delivery

(RIVERTON, WYO.) – After waiving her preliminary hearing in Circuit Court, Anjanette Rae Stiff has been transferred to District Court to face felony charges of Attempt to Deliver Marijuana. If convicted, Stiff could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.00.

According to an affidavit filed with the District Court in Lander, on July 7, 2017, Riverton Police Officers were contacted regarding suspected “drug activity” taking place in the Cliffview Mobile Home Park. The owner of the park reported that several tenants had reported that one of the residents in the area was dealing marijuana. Reports alleged that the tenant in question would place marijuana in her mailbox for juveniles to come pick up.

The owner said that he had witnessed a female exit the home in question, walk to the mailbox, and return to the residence earlier that day. After witnessing this, he drove to the mailbox and observed a “green, leafy substance” he believed to be marijuana, wrapped in clear cellophane, inside of the mailbox.

Officers responded to the scene and made contact with the owner of the park. He reported that no one had been in the area or come to the mailbox since the item was placed inside. The officer on scene then removed the substance from the mailbox and secured it inside of her patrol vehicle.

Contact was made with the residents at the address and the officer requested to speak with Stiff outside.

The officer asked Stiff what was inside of her mailbox. Stiff told the officer that she had placed marijuana in the mailbox for a subject identified as “Hope” to pick up, saying that she had done this in the past. Stiff denied having any more marijuana in her possession.

The officer on scene then escorted Stiff to the interview room at the Riverton Police Department. During the interview, Stiff told officers that she had obtained the marijuana from a subject at Church. Stiff said that “Hope” had struck up a conversation with her at some point, during which they agreed that Stiff would put the marijuana in the mailbox and “Hope” would pick it up.

Stiff told officers that she had placed the marijuana in the mailbox a few days ago and hadn’t smoked marijuana because she believed she had given it to “Hope.” She told officers that “Hope” lived down the road from her and had several children.

A Narcotics Field Test Kit was used to test the “green, leafy substance” inside of the clear cellophane baggie. The kit returned presumptive positive results for THC.
