Top 10 Health benefits of Medical Marijuana

Top 10 Health benefits of Medical Marijuana

1.Decrease anxiety

Medical marijuana has been used for centuries to treat depression and other medical conditions. More than 400 years ago, cannabis was used to treat depression in India and has since been studied and analyzed to determine the medical benefits and disadvantages for patients. Today, many states across America have legalized the use of medical marijuana, but usage still remains illegal under U.S. federal law.

Unfortunately, most of the research on marijuana is based on people who smoked the drug for recreational rather than medical purposes. A review by researchers in Canada (where medical marijuana is legal) identified only 31 studies (23 randomized controlled trials and eight observational studies) specifically focused on medical benefits of the drug. The first step to picking a good strain to combat your anxiety is recognizing your tolerance and sensitivity, and step two involves experimenting with new strains to determine which best suit your symptoms.

2.Ease nausea and increase appetite

The use of medical marijuana to relieve nausea is well established, both anecdotally and from research papers. Both THC and cannabinoids are known to mitigate nausea, and smoking weed gives better relief from vomiting that taking THC orally. Medical marijuana is an effective way to treat nausea.  Usually only a small amount of cannabis is needed.  Most only require a few puffs of smoke or a small amount of vaporized gas from marijuana.  It does not have other side effects and it will not only treat the nausea but it will probably increase their appetite as well.

A chronic lack of appetite usually reflects poor health or sickness. Conditions that cause appetite loss include digestive dysfunction, blockage of the digestive tract, chemo, infection, ulcers as well as acute stress and anxiety.

3.Treat PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a psychiatric disorder that affects some people who experience or witness a traumatic event such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, or physical or sexual abuse. An estimated 7.8 percent of Americans will experience PTSD at some time in their lives, according to the Nebraska Department of Veterans affairs. About 3.6 percent of U.S. adults between the ages of 18 and 54 (5.2 million people) will have PTSD during the course of a given year in the country. Marijuana use for medical conditions is an issue of growing concern. Some Veterans use marijuana to relieve symptoms of PTSD and several states specifically approve the use of medical marijuana for PTSD. The first participant in a clinical trial designed to evaluate the effectiveness of smoking marijuana to treat PTSD in veterans was given cannabis on Monday, according to the organization conducting the study. In our ongoing series on using marijuana to treat PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), we’ve explained what PTSD is, its symptoms, and that marijuana is being used to treat PTSD.

4.Reduce Muscle Spasms

Coping with stiff, aching, cramping muscles is a way of life for most of the 2.5 million people in the world who have multiple sclerosis. Many of the 15 million people with spinal cord injuries also suffer from the same symptoms, which cause pain, limit movement, and rob people of needed sleep. Although several conventional medications can reduce these patients’ discomfort, taking them rarely provides complete relief.

Muscle spasms are sudden contractions of a muscle. Entire muscle groups may also be affected at the same time. A spasm can range in intensity between short, tight pulses and long crippling contractions. In severe cases, muscle groups “lock”, causing temporary paralysis.

5.stops the spread of cancer

Most recognize medical marijuana to be helpful for cancer patients in some way or another.Yet marijuana’s legal status has prevented researchers in many countries from providing thorough evidence.National legalization of marijuana may be drawing a smidgeon closer. The National Cancer Institute (NCI), one of the federal government sponsored agencies, has just updated the FAQS on its website to include recent studies on marijuana showing that it can and has killed cancer cells. Cannabis can kill cancer cells and shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumours, new advice reveals.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse in the US has admitted, in its revised publication on marijuana, that the drug offers benefits to some cancer patients.

6.Slows Progression of Alziemer’s disease

A Preclinical study published in the Journal of Alziemer’s disease found that very small doses of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a chemical found in marijuana, can slow the production of beta-amyloid proteins, thought to be a hallmark characteristic and key contributor to the progression of Alzheimer’s.

“Alzheimer’s disease is an illness of the brain. It causes large numbers of nerve cells in the brain to die. This affects your ability to remember things and think clearly. Doctors don’t know what causes the disease.

“It is reasonable to conclude that there is a therapeutic potential of cannabinoids for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease,” wrote David Schubert, senior researcher and a professor at Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Marijuana is touted for its medical uses, lessening pain, nausea, and other uncomfortable side effects of conditions like glaucoma, nerve pain, and cancer. Now researchers say, a chemical found in the hotly debated drug could slow or altogether stop the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

7.Soothe hives and rashes

Known in medical terms as uriticaria, hives is a rash on the skin that is very itchy and red in color. Hives can occur anywhere on the body – from the face to the arms and legs and can vary in size from a few inches to a few millimeters. Hives could be a result of an allergic or non-allergic reaction and nearly twenty percent of children and adults develop hives at some point of time. A simple antihistamine can help reduce the allergic reaction causing your hives. Choose one of the drugs that don’t cause drowsiness.Marijuana is currently legal for medical use in 28 American states and the District of Columbia. There are increasing evidence to support the claims that the Cannabis plant offers many potential medicinal properties for a wide number of diseases and disorders.

8.sleep Aid

For decades, marijuana was portrayed in the media merely as an illegal drug used to get people high, and the people who use marijuana as no more than drug addicts and hippies seeking a desperate measure to detach from reality.  As more states begin to legalize the use of medical marijuana, these negative stigmas are being disproven simply as “scare tactics”, and replaced with scientific evidence backing marijuana as an aide towards health and wellness. There’s a reason medical marijuana has come to the forefront of America’s attention in recent years. It’s quite literally a miracle plant, a natural ‘wonder drug,’ And for millions, it is a literal life-saver, providing countless health benefits and treatments for ailments.

It’s widely known that smoking weed can help reduce anxiety and stress, and generally help you relax and mellow out. So it makes sense that many people smoke before going to bed as a kind of “self-prescribed” sleep aid, and claim that it helps them to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Then you’ve got other people who claim that marijuana makes them hyper, and causes their mind to race a mile-a-minute. Obviously, these folks wouldn’t dream of smoking pot at bedtime.

9.Prevent epileptic seizures

There are legal issues surrounding access to cannabis, as well as some scientific research on the usefulness and safety of marijuana as a treatment for seizures. Although cannabis had been used for many centuries for treatment of seizure disorders, medical use became prohibited in the 20th century. However, with the loosening of laws regarding medical marijuana, research and clinical use of marijuana-derived substances are increasing. This has prompted the publishing of an in-depth assessment of the potential of cannabinoids for the effective treatment of epilepsy. Cannabinoids are components of the cannabis plant.Epilepsy is a chronic seizure disorder that affects about 2 million Americans and 30 million people worldwide. It is characterized by recurrent sudden attacks of altered consciousness, convulsions, or other motor activity. A seizure is the synchronized excitation of large groups of brain cells. For years, some parents have turned to medical marijuana to treat their children’s debilitating epilepsy, crediting the drug with dramatically reducing seizure activity.

10.Reduce Inflammatory bowel syndromes

The marijuana plant Cannabis sativa and its derivatives, cannabinoids, have grown increasingly popular as a potential therapy for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Studies have shown that modulation of the endocannabinoid system, which regulates various functions in the body and has been shown to play a key role in the pathogenesis of IBD, has a therapeutic effect in mouse colitis. In severe cases, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can be relentless. For some unknown reason, renegade inflammation takes over all or some part of the digestive tract. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is chronic inflammation of lining of the digestive track.
